Just my Blahg

First day, new job

So here I am, up bright and early as usual. But I get to go to work today. I’ll update when I get home.

Finally.

I got myself a job working pre-press and doing ads for a not-really-so-small (after I met and learned more about the company) newspaper(s?). So, sweet; I’ll be learning more about running printers, presses and all that awesome stuff while exercising my ad-design abilities.

Only downside? Nightshift. Upside? I’ll be home in time to do a few things just as the sun rises. And it’s only going to be about 30 hours a week, 10 hours a pop. So not too bad really. Gives me time to spend out in the sun afterall.

In loving memory

We will miss you, Igloo. The Mellon Arenas’ fate is now in the hands of the City of Pittsburgh and the Pens. Pitt’s mayor wants to raze it to reconnect the Hill District with downtown, and an architect wants to save it and turn it into a community rink. Let’s hope that we keep it. It’s part of our history and we are a town that loves our history.

Pens out of the semi-finals with a 5-2 loss to Montreal. Goalie Hakan was the deciding factor, blocking our shots left and right.

Now, a moment of silence for both the end of a season and the end of an era.

Refreshing

A weekend in Pittsburgh was extremely refreshing. Both in scenery, things to do, and adding more gas to my design motor. Tomorrow I’ll be starting on finally finishing my website. The new CS5 suite has given me much more to work with in terms of making a website.

Being a designer, I can code CSS and HTML; however, flash has always been out of my reach. It’s level of technicality and code was always a large mountain to climb. With Flash Catalyst though, That mountain has been blown apart by dynamite and is now just rubble that I can go and sort through, picking the pieces I want.

Poster work

Kinda old, but I’m in the mood for working on something new.  Posting merely for the sake of feeling important about past work. Read the rest of this entry »

Messing with a logo design for fun

Opinions welcomed.  Just toying with fake names and applicable purposes. Read the rest of this entry »

Worst car insurance ad

Seriously.  Did the ‘General’ punch this guy out for asking if he could ‘maybe get a lower price?’.  Or maybe he decided to go elsewhere.  All I know after watching this is that the General is a no-bullshit guy that will knock your block off if you piss him off; and he works out constantly for just such an occasion.

I think I’ll go with Geico.

Father + Chainsaw = Hell

Seriously. The math works. Because I spent all day… stacking lumber.  And we still have the trunk left to finish.

Business Cards, yet again.

Back to working on business cards… Doing some for Hair stylists and a photographer. It’s interesting noticing the differences in desired quality between the two. While the obvious “What’s the substrate?” isn’t going to be a question from the stylist, it certainly is a fawned over question from the photographer.

Reptile show

It’s nothing new that I like anything out of the ordinary. Animals are part of that interest, (I tend to be a bit of a softie when it comes to animals.) and I used to breed and sell leopard geckos. I’ve owned Beaded Dragons as well; add in a touch of saltwater and ferrets: you got a pretty wide array of animals that have come into my possession.
